Coping With Panic Attacks While Sleeping?

You lie in your bed consciously awake yet paralyzed and not able to breathe.

Your heart is pounding rapidly and you are very scared; not because of the What does an anxiety attack feel like?content of the dream or nightmare you just woke from, but specifically because of the fact that you can’t breathe.

For a lot of people, panic attacks while sleeping are not an uncommon experience. It happens to them during sleep or rest periods because it is during this time that the body is most relaxed and is susceptible for an attack. They seemingly come out of nowhere…

Panic attacks while sleeping may seem unprovoked by any particular event, but in reality they are indications of excessive stress or anxiety during the day. Like for instance, some people wake up with panic attacks in the middle of the night after a severe fight with someone, or the loss of a beloved family member.

More often than not, we are aware of the external stress in our day-to-day life. However, we tend to repress our anxious feelings, or inhibit our emotions from flowing freely during the day. Such emotions can sometimes haunt us in the form of nightmares, frightfulness, breathlessness, or panic attacks while sleeping. To put it simply, any imbalance in your life or build up of anxiety and stress are manifested through panic attacks.

Although panic attacks themselves are not normally physically harmful, they can be very cumbersome as they can cause a number of physical stress-related pains as well as chronic insomnia problem.

How to prevent panic attacks. One helpful method to avoid panic attack while sleeping is to do some deep breathing exercises. This will calm you down after experiencing panic or anxiety attack while sleeping.

A very important fact to remember about panic attacks is that: whether they occur during the day, or while you are sleeping; they are only a symptom, not a condition. And if the core of the anxiety problem is dealt with, panic attacks can be reduced or even eliminated.

A Natural Cure For Anxiety Attacks

For those of us unfortunate enough to have to suffer the horror that are anxiety panic attack symptoms, help is at hand with the vast range of products and services that are now available.

The only downside is that because of the multitude of options on offer to sufferers, the choice of which one to choose has made the decision a whole lot harder.

Dealing with panic attacks.Whilst the range of anxiety panic attack products and services has grown considerably, thankfully, when it comes to choosing which anxiety panic attack treatment is the most effective, there are only two choices to be considered: do you use medication or choose the increasingly popular natural cures for anxiety panic attacks?

I have met a lot of steadfast sufferers over the years who, having started on one regime of treatment for their anxiety panic attacks, completely ignore the fact there is another option open to them. That’s fine. That’s their choice. Personally, I believe that natural is the way to go. There are some that will scoff at this choice, but when dealing with anxiety panic attack symptoms it’s a matter of what is the most effective and whilst some will praise the merits of medication, natural cures for panic attacks are able to accomplish what medicines simply can’t do.

Here are my top 3 reasons why we should tackle anxiety panic attack symptoms naturally:

1. Medication. Medicines just don’t quite go the whole way.

Trembling, the shortness of breath, palpitations, perspiration, that fear of going mad and of dying; and those are just a few of the many anxiety panic attack symptoms. The fact that there is something tangible at hand that can instantly reduce those attacks and provide a quick dose of instant relaxation, means that sufferers automatically reach out for that medication.

Panic attack over, these people are now happy knowing that that panic attack isn’t going to happen so often. And therein lies the biggest problem. There’s no denying that medication is effective in that it provides relief from attacks, but that relief is only temporary. Medication alone can’t do away with anxiety. It’s only purpose is to operate on the superficial level. It hasn’t got the capability to reach the heart of the problem and rip out the fear that those anxiety panic attack symptoms bring on.

2. Fighting back IS possible if given the right tools.

The panic attack’s over and you’re starting to feel a lot better now that the medication is kicking in. But have yopu stopped to consider what’s going to happen the next time you have another attack? Are you going to have another attack? That medication is all very well, but why make yourself a sitting duck when panic does attack when there are natural methods that you should consider?

Reducing the number of attacks with medication isn’t always the best option. By choosing to rely on the natural coping techniques that are available this will help to reduce the horror of going through them. Over time, not only will these attacks lose their edge, but they will eventually leave you alone.

3. The effects last … naturally!

What do you do when you’re medication runs out? What’s going to happen if your Doctor feels that your panic attacks are no more and you no longer require medication even though you feel your world will end without it? The effects of medication will only last for as long as you keep taking it. Once that stops, you will find yourself back at square one. Natural cures for panic attacks will put you well up the ladder to eliminating these attacks entirely. They will afford you the experience that will help you fend them off for life.

As I said earler, I’m not one to start dictating to you that you MUST choose one method over another when it comes to anxiety panic attack treatment. I’m not going to stand here and say to you, you WILL use natural cures for anxiety panic attacks. Medicines do have their merits. I’d much rather look to the future, and if a life free from anxiety panic attack symptoms can be achieved through the natural approach, then I’m sticking to it.

Physical Symptoms of Anxiety and Stress

Panic attacks tend to jump out of nowhere without warning. Although experts don’t know for sure what exactly causes panic attacks, they know one thing is certain; it appears to "run in the family."

So chances are, if your mother , father, siblings, or other immediate family members suffer from them, there’s a good chance other family members may suffer from them also!

The common panic attack symptoms are:

A severe anxiety attack?
An intense feeling of fear
Heart Palpitations
Numbness and/or tingling in limbs
Having difficulty breathing
Sweating
Nausea
Stomach Upset
Pain in the Chest
Most people coping with these panic attack symptoms report they usually go away after approximately 10-20 minutes.

People who suffer from repeated panic attacks coupled with the fact that these attacks severely disrupt their daily routines and lives, may be diagnosed with panic disorder. Panic disorder sufferers intentionally avoid certain situations or places they think may have triggered a previous attack, and they incessantly worry about when the next one will occur.

It’s a good idea to get yourself checked out by a physician if you think you’ve experienced a panic attack so you can rule out any other medical condition you may have. Also, by immediately seeing a physician, you can set yourself on a much quicker path to recovery.

While coping with panic attacks, try exercising daily after getting medical clearance from your doctor, even if it means merely walking fifteen minutes a day.

If you smoke, consider quitting altogether; this is a known trigger for many panic attack sufferers.

Natural anxiety treatment.Make time to relax yourself. You don’t have to resort to meditation or yoga if you don’t want to. A great way to do this is to close your eyes on your lunch break with a little soft music, and visualizing yourself in a safe, serene place, such as a brook, a distant waterfall, a beautiful landscape, etc.

Educate your loved ones on what is occurring if they don’t already know; what you are going through is very real, and ultimately the best cure will come from within your very own mind!
